Miami has many anchorages all throughout it's beautiful intercoastal waterways. These are found in areas areas generally safe from rough water because of surrounding land block. Mariners anchor together in these areas forming a loose community. Not all anchorages are welcomed by the city or locals from the area.

Some of Miami's Anchorages are maintained and monitered by the city and some just show up in areas that have regularly calm water. The ones that just pop up don't generally last too long. Locals try to keep these unmonitored anchorages out of their area because of the theft that generates from these anchorages. If the city offers mooring in the area then the unmonitered anchorages must dissipate.
